Google Wins Auction for Spirit Airlines Data with $10M Bid
Google has emerged victorious in an auction for data from bankrupt Spirit Airlines, offering $10 million to acquire the treasure trove of information.
The data includes approximately 10 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams conversations and recordings, and 7.5 billion passenger transactions since 2008.
The airline's flight attendants' union, AFA-CWA, has filed a lawsuit to ensure that confidential employee profiles are excluded from the transaction.
Google plans to use this data to improve its products and AI models, particularly in areas where real decision-making conversations occur within an actual airline.
