Google Wins Auction for Spirit Airlines' Internal Data for $10 Million
Google has acquired a vast trove of internal data from bankrupt airline Spirit Airlines for $10 million in a judicial auction. The data package includes hundreds of millions of emails, Microsoft Teams chats, and other corporate materials such as presentations and documents.
The sale agreement stipulates that all data records must be anonymized by a third party before being transferred to Google, and the tech company is barred from attempting to de-anonymize it in the future.
This acquisition takes place amidst the travel industry's anticipation of disruption caused by AI-powered tools. Google plans to use the data for refining its artificial intelligence models and improving existing products, potentially leading to new developments.
