Google's Sideloading Workaround Rolls Out with Extra Friction
Google is finally rolling out its advanced sideloading flow for Android devices. This allows power users to install apps from unverified developers without touching ADB, but with some extra friction.
The idea behind this feature is to tie every app to a real developer ID, making it harder for scammers to sneak malware onto your phone. Not all developers will want to verify themselves, so Google built the advanced flow for those who still want that freedom.
To use it, you'll need to enable it from the hidden Developer options menu, authenticate yourself, restart your phone, and then wait a full 24 hours before sideloading anything from an unverified source. Android will still show a warning every time you install or update an app from an unverified developer.
Don't expect this to show up on your phone right away - Google needs a new Android Developer Verifier system service running in the background first, and it's only rolling out in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand for now. A full global rollout is planned for 2027.
