Google Wins Bidding War for Spirit's Internal Data for $10 Million
Google has won a bidding war for Spirit Airlines' internal data, paying $10 million for the trove of information. The deal includes the airline's internal documents, workflows, emails, and Teams messages, with over 500 million messages in total.
The data, which excludes customer information and has been anonymized, is valued at a bargain price for Google. For Spirit employees, however, it serves as a reminder that their work communications are not entirely private.
Employment attorneys say that workers should be aware of the value of their digital footprints on the job and take steps to protect their privacy. 'Your work email and chat are actually not a diary,' said Jared Pope, CEO of Work Shield. 'Assume anything you create on a company system could outlive your own job there.'
