Googlebook laptops explained new features and setup details revealed
Google has launched a series of support pages for its upcoming Googlebook laptops, offering detailed explanations of key features ahead of their official release. The support documents focus on unique elements like the Glowbar, an RGB LED strip located on the back of the device, and Game Controls, a feature designed to enhance gaming experiences.
The Glowbar serves multiple functions, including indicating different lighting states and battery levels. For instance, it glows dimly in white when the laptop is in use and brightens during charging. The full VIBGYOR color spectrum appears when the device wakes up or goes to sleep. Additionally, the Glowbar cycles through blue and purple hues during conversations with Gemini, Google's AI assistant. Users have the option to disable the Glowbar entirely or just during Gemini interactions.
Another highlighted feature is Game Controls, which allows users to map keyboard keys to on-screen controls for Android games. This customization can be accessed through the game's settings menu, enabling users to assign joystick controls and other inputs to enhance gameplay. The feature is designed to provide a more tailored gaming experience on Googlebook devices.
Googlebook laptops have already generated significant interest, as evidenced by their sell-out during the pre-order phase. The company has also released a video explaining the design philosophy behind Googlebook OS, which shows a strong influence from macOS. These support documents and videos are intended to help users make the most of their new devices, which went on sale this weekend.
