Googlebook Laptops Ship with Intel and Qualcomm Chips
Google has begun shipping its first Googlebook laptops in several countries, including the US, Canada, and parts of Europe and Australia. Prices for these devices start at $899. The laptops come with two chip options: HP and Dell models use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X1 Elite chip, while Acer, ASUS, and Lenovo devices feature Intel Core Ultra 3 (Panther Lake) chips.
Google’s new Googlebook OS promises an AI-powered experience with seamless integration of Android phones. However, the company has acknowledged some compatibility issues with Android apps running on Intel-based devices. A Google spokesperson told Android Authority that most Android apps run smoothly on both Intel and Qualcomm-powered Googlebooks, but a few complex apps or games require developer tuning to perform optimally on Intel platforms.
Google is collaborating with app developers, Intel, and Qualcomm to improve performance and expand compatibility. This situation mirrors Microsoft’s challenges with app compatibility on ARM-based PCs, which saw gradual improvements over time. As more Googlebook models are expected to launch soon, it remains to be seen whether manufacturers will prefer Qualcomm’s chips over Intel’s offerings.
