Googlebook OS Takes Center Stage as ChromeOS Support Continues

Google has announced that it will continue to support ChromeOS until mid-2034 as it shifts its focus to Googlebook OS. The company's latest Chromebooks will be eligible for a transition to the new operating system, with many devices offering direct migration paths.

The move is part of Google's plan to replace ChromeOS with Googlebook OS, which runs on an Android-based operating system. The first wave of Googlebooks has already been released, and some recent Chromebook devices will be able to switch to the new OS.

Google has promised that Chromebooks will receive 10 years of support, and those purchased in the last few years may have wondered how this aligns with the company's move to a new operating system. According to a support page for enterprise and education users, Google will continue to issue updates and security patches until mid-2034.

For devices that qualify for 10-year support beyond 2034, Google is committed to supporting their transition to Googlebook OS. The company plans to roll out the first Googlebook OS device management features for enterprise and education users in the second half of 2027.
