Googlebooks: Android-Powered Laptops Challenge Windows and macOS
Google has unveiled its new line of laptops, dubbed 'Googlebooks', which aim to challenge Windows and macOS. The devices run on Android software, combining a desktop-grade Chrome experience with native support for Android apps. Pre-orders are now open for the first Googlebook laptops from five manufacturers: Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
The starting prices range from $899 to $1,299, with each device including a year of Google AI Pro and three months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and other premium services. The machines can instantly import settings, saved passwords, and Wi-Fi connections from an Android phone when signed in.
Each Googlebook includes advanced features such as Gemini, Google's AI assistant, which can be summoned with a mouse click or through voice commands. Users can also use prompts to create custom widgets or build apps through the Antigravity AI agent platform. The devices feature backlit keyboards, haptic trackpads, and Google's Glowbar, which displays patterns in response to boot cycles, battery level, and AI actions.
