Googlebooks Arrive: Android-Powered Laptops Start at $899
Google's new Android-powered laptops, known as Googlebooks, are now available for preorder from various OEMs. The first batch of five models starts at $899, with prices ranging up to $1,299. These devices feature premium hardware, including bright OLED screens, metal builds, and big haptic trackpads.
Unlike Chromebooks, which have typically been budget options, Googlebooks are designed to be 'real' computers with powerful development tools and on-device apps. The new laptops run either a Snapdragon X Elite or an Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) chip, both of which have an NPU capable of 45 TOPS of on-device AI performance.
The Acer Googlebook 14 is the cheapest option at $899, while the rest of the launch laptops are priced between $1,199 and $1,299. Google's partners launched a few Chromebooks in this price range previously, but they didn't see wide adoption.
