Googlebooks: Asus and Lenovo Partner on Custom Android-Based Devices

Google's highly anticipated Googlebooks are set to launch soon, and Asus and Lenovo are among the hardware partners working on the project. The devices will run a custom Android-based OS called Aluminum OS, designed specifically for desktop use and touted as an 'intelligence system' that combines the Android app ecosystem with deep cross-integration with your Android phone.

Aluminum OS promises to bring together the Chrome browser and all of the Chrome OS features, making it a significant upgrade over traditional Chromebooks. The Googlebook line will include devices from multiple manufacturers, including Asus, Lenovo, Acer, Dell, and HP, which are set to be unveiled at IFA next month.

The Asus and Lenovo Googlebooks have been leaked in renders that show them to be premium devices with a generous port selection, including USB Type-C, USB Type-A, HDMI, and an audio jack. The Asus model features an Ultra-Ceramic Light Alloy chassis, making it 34% lighter and 13% stronger than its predecessor.

One of the most distinctive features of the Googlebooks is the 'glowbar', a statement piece that doubles as a functional design element. This feature is similar to the Pixel Glow LEDs/HiLight coming to the Pixel 11 series, and it's likely to become a signature element of the Googlebook brand.
