Googlebooks Unveiled: Partners Take Lead in Premium Laptop Design
The ASUS Googlebook is one of several laptops that will be released under the new Googlebook platform, which allows partners like ASUS to build machines that fit Google's brand identity.
The laptop's design and features are largely determined by Google, with only a few key decisions left up to the manufacturer. For example, the chassis design and finish, as well as the cooling system used, are both decided by ASUS.
However, many of the features that make a Googlebook recognizable are standard across all models, including a glowbar on the lid and a G key placed next to the Alt key.
The platform has been designed to allow manufacturers to focus on building high-quality machines while Google takes care of the software and brand identity. This approach is meant to help Google compete with established PC makers without having to build its own laptops from scratch.
