Google's $1 Billion Data Center Campus Unveiled in Virginia

Google has been quietly building a massive data center campus in Botetourt County, Virginia. The project began in June 2025 when the county announced that Google had purchased land at the Botetourt Center at Greenfield business park for development.

Since then, more details have emerged as the project moves forward. In June 2026, an open house event was held at Lord Botetourt High School to provide information about the data center and its impact on the community.

The water authority has also stated that Google's data center campus will consume approximately 2 million gallons of water per day, a significant amount for the area. While some may see this as a concern, others view it as a necessary investment in infrastructure and economic growth.
