Google's 25-Electric-Truck Deal Signals Real-World Freight Electrification
Google has announced a major electric trucking deal in Texas, partnering with Nevoya and the Center for Green Market Activation (GMA) to deploy 25 electric semi trucks on a new route between Houston and Dallas.
The fleet is part of a larger 63-truck project, making it the largest known deployment of Class 8 battery-electric, zero-emission trucks in Texas. The trucks are expected to log roughly 11 million miles per year, avoiding around 92,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions compared to traditional diesel trucks.
The deal is funded through environmental attribute certificates, a mechanism that allows companies to offset supply chain emissions by funding clean transportation elsewhere in the system. Google's Head of Strategic Priorities for Climate Operations, Jenna Stauffer, confirmed the partnership, highlighting its commitment to decarbonizing freight movement.
