Google's $4 Billion Data Center Boosts West Memphis Economy
West Memphis, Arkansas has long been known for its transportation infrastructure, but Google's recent decision to build a $4 billion data center there is changing the city's economic landscape. The facility is expected to bring in around 300-400 permanent positions with high-paying incomes, which will help invigorate the local economy.
The area has struggled with low household income and high poverty rates. In 2025, the yearly household income in West Memphis was $42,674, compared to $60,773 for the rest of the state and $83,730 nationally. The poverty rate was also higher at 29.1%, compared to a national average of just 10.6%.
However, with Google's investment, things are looking up. Currently, around 4,000 construction workers are connected to the development, boosting local businesses and stimulating economic growth. When the facility is operational, these high-paying jobs will help increase household income and reduce poverty rates in the area.
