Google's $62 Million Tracking Settlement Upheld by Appeals Court
A federal appeals court has upheld Google's $62 million settlement for tracking users' locations without their consent. The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit rejected arguments from some class members who claimed they should receive a share of the funds, even if it meant each member would only get a few cents based on the 247 million class members.
The court agreed with the trial court's decision to direct the settlement money towards a group of nonprofits instead of distributing it among individual users. The ruling sets a precedent for how companies can settle similar lawsuits in the future.
