Google's AI-Powered 'Call for Me' Makes Business Calls Easier

Google has introduced 'Call for Me', a new feature that lets Gemini call businesses on users' behalf using artificial intelligence. The service is currently being tested with a small group of Pixel 11 owners in the U.S. who have a Gemini subscription and are using the beta version of Google's Phone app for Android.

The AI-powered calls can perform complex tasks, such as calling a store to ask about product availability or making a restaurant reservation. Users can also follow the call in real-time and take over at any time if needed. The feature uses the user's own phone number and dials directly from their device.

Google has been experimenting with AI-assisted, automated calling technology for years. In 2022, it rolled out 'Ask for Me', a feature that let Gemini call businesses to inquire about things like pricing or services. The company is taking a cautious approach with this new feature, starting the experiment at a small scale due to the nuances of real-world conversations.
