Google's Argon AI Model Off-Limits Due to Cybersecurity Risks
Google has updated its Gemini AI system with a new model named Argon, which it claims outperforms rival frontier models from OpenAI and Anthropic on several industry benchmarks. However, access to this advanced model is restricted due to concerns over potential cybersecurity threats.
The tech giant is initially limiting access to select cybersecurity partners and the Trump administration's voluntary pre-release process. This decision comes after months of delays in releasing Gemini 3.5 Pro, which was originally scheduled for a June launch but has since been scrapped.
Google confirmed that it had abandoned plans for Gemini 3.5 Pro following leadership departures and an overhaul at its DeepMind AI lab. The company is now pivoting towards promoting the cost advantages of Gemini over its competitors.
