Google's Call for Me Aims to Revolutionize Business Phone Calls

Google's Gemini feature, 'Call for Me', is now available to Pixel 11 owners in the US who have a paid Gemini subscription and are enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta. This AI-powered calling tool places and conducts business phone calls on behalf of users, navigating automated menus, waiting on hold, and speaking with staff.

The feature uses user-approved personal information to handle more involved requests and provides a live transcript during the call, allowing users to monitor or step in at any point. Supported tasks include checking product availability, making restaurant reservations, rescheduling appointments, and placing items on hold.

Google describes Call for Me as an early experiment, acknowledging that real-world calls can be unpredictable and may involve accents, unexpected policy questions, and variable audio quality. The company is starting small to ensure the feature's effectiveness and user experience.
