Google's Data Center Won't Bump Up Utility Bills for West Memphis Residents
West Memphis Utilities has assured its customers that they will not see any rate increases due to Google's massive data center project. The $4 billion, 1,000-acre facility is currently under construction in West Memphis, Arkansas.
According to the utility company, Google is paying for the costs of the infrastructure needed to support the data center. This means that customers will not see any added expense on their utility bills because of the project.
The news comes as a relief to residents and businesses in the area who may have been concerned about potential rate hikes. West Memphis Utilities General Manager Bob Atkins emphasized the company's commitment to protecting its existing customers.
In related news, MLGW President and CEO Doug McGowen made similar statements regarding data centers in Memphis and Shelby County. He assured that there have been no electric rate increases for residential, commercial, or industrial class customers due to data centers in the area.
