Google’s Fitbit Edge to Launch With Screen and 7-Day Battery
Google is set to expand its wearable lineup with the upcoming Fitbit Edge, a new fitness band that bridges the gap between its screenless Fitbit Air and the premium Pixel Watch 5. Leaked images reveal a sleek design with an oval color display, built-in GPS, an altimeter, and up to seven days of battery life. The device is expected to launch this month, just in time for the holiday shopping season.
The Fitbit Edge features a compact design with a small oval screen, two side buttons, and a sensor array on the back. It supports notifications and runs a few key apps, including Google Maps, YouTube Music, and Find My Phone. Unlike the Pixel Watch 5, it lacks Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, relying solely on Bluetooth. The band also includes pin mechanisms for easy band swapping and comes in three colors: black, green, and orange.
Pricing for the Fitbit Edge is estimated to range from $149 to $199, positioning it between the $99 Fitbit Air and the $399 Pixel Watch 5. This mid-range offering is designed to appeal to users who want more features than the Air but don’t need the full capabilities of a smartwatch. The Edge is also expected to work with both Android and iOS devices, broadening its appeal.
The Fitbit Edge arrives as Google refocuses its health business on software and subscriptions. The transition from the Fitbit app to Google Health in May, along with the introduction of health summaries and Gemini features, signals a shift toward a more integrated ecosystem. Competitors like Whoop are also moving in this direction, adding AI coaching and live doctor consultations to their offerings. The Edge provides a more affordable entry point into this ecosystem, potentially attracting users who find smartwatches too expensive or feature-rich.
