Google's Fort Wayne Data Center Expansion Wins Approval from Indiana Environmental Agency
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has approved Google's request to fill more wetlands as part of its $2 billion data center expansion in Fort Wayne. The permit allows developers to fill 2.13 acres of forested, isolated wetlands to construct three new buildings for the data center's third phase.
Hatchworks LLC, the developers of Google's data center campus, will purchase 4.26 acres of wetland credits from the Openings Mitigation Bank in Fort Wayne to offset the impacts of filling the two acres.
IDEM laid out several project conditions as part of the approval, including requirements for mitigation and erosion control measures to minimize further disturbance to adjacent wetlands and streams.
