Google's Gemini 4 Argon AI Model Sparks Debate Amid Rising Shares
Google's shares rose about 2% on Thursday after the company began rolling out its latest artificial intelligence model, Gemini 4 Argon. This move comes despite reported internal debate over its performance on some coding tasks.
The model has shown strong results on several industry benchmarks, but people familiar with the project told Bloomberg that its performance can differ in practical engineering work. Some employees believe models from OpenAI and Anthropic are improving faster, while others view Gemini 4 as competitive with leading systems.
Google disputed the coding concerns, pointing to internal testing and remarks from Google DeepMind chief Koray Kavukcuoglu, who said he remains confident in the team and its progress. The release follows months of work to advance Google's AI lineup, which had previously planned to release Gemini 3.5 Pro in June but abandoned that version as development shifted toward the newer model.
