Google's Gemini AI Gets Animated Companion with New Live Avatar Feature

Google has rolled out a new feature for its Gemini AI voice assistant called Live Avatar. This innovative tool turns Gemini into an animated companion that can see and respond to users in real-time. The avatar's lip movements are synchronized with speech, allowing it to reproduce facial expressions and respond without long pauses.

Gemini 3.8 Live supports 97 languages, which means the avatar can adapt its lip sync and facial expressions to match the user's language preferences. This feature is particularly useful in support services, interactive tutorials, and customer service, as demonstrated by Google's own demo where the avatar helps a guest check in at a hotel.

Corporate customers will be able to create their own custom avatars based on real people or fictional characters, while preserving their appearance and corporate identity. This feature is currently only available to companies that have received separate permission from Google.
