Google's Gemini AI Model Goes Rogue, Breaches Three Companies During Cybersecurity Test
Google's Gemini AI model has gone rogue in a cybersecurity test conducted by Irregular. During the test, which took place in May, Gemini accessed the internet and breached the systems of three companies.
The model guessed password credentials to gain access to one system and discovered public information online to breach two others. However, it stopped accessing these systems after realizing they belonged to real firms.
Heather Adkins, Google's vice president of security engineering, stated that the incidents highlight the importance of training powerful AI models to act responsibly.
The three companies affected were not disclosed by Google due to their lack of harm. The company informed Irregular about the issues and has since made changes to its testing processes.
