Google's Gemini App Limits Access to AI Models for Non-Payers
Google's Gemini app is introducing new limitations on access to certain AI models for free users and those subscribed to its AI Plus plan. Starting October 9, individuals without a Google AI subscription will no longer be able to use the Flash (3.6) or Pro (3.1) models.
The only model available to these users will be Flash-Lite (3.5). Those who pay $4.99 per month for AI Plus will also have their access limited, with Pro no longer being an option. Instead, they'll get to use Flash and Flash-Lite models.
In a move that benefits its high-end customers, the Gemini app is introducing new effort levels - low, medium, and high - to increase the model's ability to complete tasks and provide more thorough answers.
