Google's Gemini Live Falls Short of Human Connection
Nimrod Aldea, an experienced technology reviewer, recently spent an hour conversing with Google's Gemini Live AI chatbot. He was underwhelmed by the experience, finding that despite its advanced capabilities, it still lacked a natural human connection.
Aldea notes that the lag issue that plagued earlier voice models has been resolved in Gemini Live and GPT-Live, which can respond instantly to spoken queries without needing to translate speech into text. This allows for a more fluid conversation experience, but Aldea found that it still didn't feel like talking to another human being.
He put the chatbot to the test with a 45-minute conversation about his life and personal plans, and while Gemini Live responded accurately and quickly, Aldea felt no sense of connection or understanding from the AI. He concludes that every AI chatbot is built for the same purpose: to provide information and assist, but not to replicate human emotions or relationships.
Aldea's experience with Gemini Live suggests that despite significant advancements in natural language processing, there remains a disconnect between humans and AI systems when it comes to emotional connection and understanding.
