Google's Home MCP Brings Smart Home Devices Under Personal AI Agent Control
Google has announced Home MCP (Model Context Protocol), a feature that allows personal AI agents to interact with smart home devices. This includes Google Nest cameras and doorbells, as well as Matter light bulbs.
The new protocol enables agents like Antigravity, Claude, OpenClaw, and others to analyze device state history, track activity, and manage devices on behalf of users.
Example use cases include cross-camera analysis, where an agent can summarize footage from multiple cameras, or analyzing home history, such as tracking laundry loads or light usage.
Home MCP also allows agents to interact with users via voice, sending audio messages when tasks are completed. Additionally, agents can build custom dashboards tailored to individual users' needs.
