Google's Live Translate Expands Offline Capabilities on Some Pixel Phones

Google has expanded its Live Translate feature on some Pixel phones to work offline. This means users can now access real-time translation without an internet connection. The feature, which debuted with the Google Pixel 6 in 2021, relies on the Tensor chip for efficient and private AI processing.

LIVE Translate allows users to communicate with others across languages in real-time. With this expansion, users can also translate speech during phone calls, a feature known as Call Translate. This integration enhances accessibility and communication capabilities for users of supported Pixel phones.

The Live Translate feature leverages Google's proprietary Tensor chip to process language on the device itself. This approach provides significant privacy advantages over cloud-based translation services, as conversations remain private and are not transmitted to Google's servers.
