Google's Pixel 11 Pro XL Extreme Charging Falls Short of Rival Flagships

The Pixel 11 Pro XL's new Extreme Charging feature promises to shave off up to five minutes of charging time, but it comes at a cost. To unlock this capability, users must first charge their phone from empty to full twice and then wait for the option to appear in settings.

When enabled, Extreme Charging allows the Pixel 11 Pro XL to sustain its peak power level for longer, reaching 75% charge in 28 minutes, seven minutes faster than standard mode. However, this increased charging speed comes with a higher temperature risk, exceeding the 40°C threshold and remaining above it for about 20 minutes.

Compared to rival flagships like the OnePlus 15 and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, Google's Extreme Charging falls short in both charge time and heat dissipation. These phones deliver higher peak and average power while maintaining temperatures closer to Google's standard charging profile.

Robert Triggs of Android Authority notes that using Extreme Charging every day could contribute to long-term battery capacity degradation due to the increased heat. He advises viewing it as a last-resort top-up tool rather than a new fast-charging capability.
