Google's Pixel HiLight Feature Falls Short Despite Promising Concept

The Pixel 11 series of smartphones introduced a feature called HiLight, a multicolored LED module built into the camera bar's flash unit. This feature is only available on the Pixel 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold models.

Rumors suggested that the original idea for the Pixel series was to include a glowing LED light bar surrounding the perimeter of the camera bar, but Google instead opted for HiLight. The current implementation is limited, with only five preset colors available and no generic pulsing or blinking notifications.

Some users have expressed hope that additional functionalities will be added to the feature, including rumors of four new color options and support for messages. However, even if these additions are made, some critics argue that the LED module's placement on the rear of the phone is a major drawback.
