Google's Pixel Series: A Decade of Evolution and Innovation
Google's Pixel series has come a long way in the past decade, from its humble beginnings to becoming a major player in the smartphone market. When Google first entered the smartphone market with the Pixel in 2016, it was met with skepticism due to the late entry of the big two - Apple and Samsung.
However, the original Pixel had some unique features that set it apart from its competitors, including built-in Google Assistant integration and HDR+ image processing pipeline for photos. The main thing that helped differentiate the device was its simple formula, which would more or less define the Pixel for the past decade of Google's mobile computing efforts.
Over the years, Google has made significant improvements to the Pixel series, including introducing new designs, features, and technologies. For example, the second generation of Pixel phones introduced a new design language with the iconic 'Panda' colorway, as well as innovative camera features such as Portrait Mode and Active Edge.
However, not all iterations of the Pixel series have been successful. The Pixel 4, for instance, was a big swing that didn't quite land, with some critics panning its design and hardware choices. It also triggered a reshuffle in Google's hardware team.
In recent years, Google has made significant strides in the Pixel series, including introducing new camera technologies such as Night Sight, which changed low-light smartphone photography forever. The company has also shifted towards more affordable options, with the mid-range Pixel 4a becoming an instant hit.
