Google's Preferred Sources Button: A Narrow Win for Publishers
Google has introduced a new 'Preferred Sources' button for publishers to increase their visibility on the platform. The button, which can be embedded directly on article pages, allows readers to add sites they regularly visit to their Preferred Sources list with just one click.
This removes an extra step that previously required readers to leave the article and navigate to Google's source preferences page to select a site.
The feature is not new, but its placement has changed. It was initially available in AI Overviews and AI Mode in May and has now been extended to every language.
Google reported over 600,000 unique sources selected, up from around 345,000 in May, indicating a significant adoption rate.
