Google's Price Hike Leaves Streaming Device Lacking Value

Google's TV Streamer has seen a significant price hike of 50% since its debut in September 2024, now costing $150. This increase puts it on par with other mid-range streaming devices like the Roku Ultra and Amazon Fire TV Cube.

The Google TV Streamer had previously offered a competitive edge over its rivals, but this advantage has been eroded by the price hike. The Roku Ultra currently retails at $150, offering similar specs to the Google TV Streamer, including support for up to 4K resolution at 60fps and Dolby Vision.

However, there is an alternative that still offers great value: the Onn 4K Pro streaming device from Walmart. Despite its low price of just $59.98, it runs on the same Google TV platform as the Google TV Streamer, offering access to the Google Play Store and Gemini AI features.
