Google's Rotating Keyboard: A One-Handed Typing Conundrum
Google's Gboard team has come up with an unorthodox solution to one-handed typing. Instead of stretching a finger across a keyboard, they've mounted rows of keycaps on loops that travel around rollers in a rotating keyboard.
The keyboard stands upright on a desk and carries 29 keys, allowing users to input both uppercase and lowercase letters. This means the user's hand can stay near the same spot while typing, turning typing into a timing exercise as they wait for the right key to arrive.
Google suggests using this device with a cup of tea in one hand, but notes that it may not be the most practical solution. The rotating keyboard is an open-source project and has released plans for anyone curious enough to build their own version.
