Google's Tap to Share Feature Now Live for Select Android Phones

Google has released a new feature called Tap to Share within its Quick Share platform. This allows users of compatible Android phones to exchange contact details or initiate file transfers when their devices are tapped together.

To use this function, two Android users must unlock their phones and bring them within about an inch of each other. They will then review the contact details before saving them if they choose to do so. For sending files like photos or videos, the sender opens the Android Share Sheet and brings their device close to the recipient's phone.

The recipient can then review and accept or reject the file transfer. Quick Share manages the data exchange once the phones initiate interaction with each other. Users who prefer not to use this feature can disable it in the Settings by selecting Quick Share and disabling Tap to Share.

However, not all Android devices will support this feature immediately. Google is currently limiting its availability to Pixel 6 and newer models running on Android 17. The company plans to expand support to other devices throughout the year.
