Great Lakes Advisors Buys New Stake in Walmart Amid Earnings Beat
Great Lakes Advisors LLC, a financial institution, recently bought a new position in Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ: WMT) during the second quarter. The firm acquired 74,569 shares of the retailer's stock, valued at approximately $8,446,000.
This move is part of a larger trend where several large investors have been increasing their holdings in Walmart. Advisortrust Partners LLC lifted its stake in Walmart by 20.2% in the first quarter, and Union Bancaire Privee UBP SA grew its holdings in Walmart by 253.3% during the same period.
Walmart recently reported adjusted earnings of $0.81 per share and revenue of $187.94 billion for the second quarter, beating consensus estimates. The company also announced plans to use approximately $2.9 billion in tariff refunds to help lower prices and improve checkout convenience through the rollout of tap-to-pay services.
However, Walmart's Q3 guidance fell short of expectations, with projected adjusted EPS of $0.62-$0.64 versus $0.68 expected. The stock's elevated valuation increases its sensitivity to any slowdown in consumer spending.
