Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou has clarified that there are no plans to change the route of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), a submarine cable connecting Greece and Cyprus.

Papastavrou categorically denied reports suggesting changes in the project's design due to the Turkish marine park in the Eastern Mediterranean, describing the information as 'completely inaccurate.'

The drilling and surveys for the GSI are set to begin in early 2027 in the northwestern Ionian Sea. Chevron and ExxonMobil have confirmed that milestones will be met, including seismic surveys starting in the Ionian Sea and continuing south of the Peloponnese and Crete.
