Guest Drops Lawsuit Against Disney Over Blizzard Beach Waterslide Injuries
Eugene Strickland has dropped his lawsuit against Walt Disney World that claimed he suffered permanent catastrophic injuries at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. The lawsuit, filed in May 2025, alleged that the Downhill Double Dipper waterslide had dangerous conditions that led to his injuries. Strickland, who weighed 334 pounds at the time of the incident, exceeded the slide’s 300-pound weight limit. According to his lawsuit, Strickland became momentarily airborne during the ride, causing his inner tube to dislodge and resulting in his fall onto the slide’s surface.
Strickland originally sought $50,000 in damages, arguing that Disney was negligent and failed to maintain a safe premises. He claimed that the incident left him with lasting injuries. However, on October 2, 2026, Strickland voluntarily dismissed his claims, with both sides agreeing to cover their own attorney fees and costs.
The Downhill Double Dipper is a popular attraction at Blizzard Beach where guests race down twin waterslides from a 50-foot drop. Disney’s description of the ride highlights its exhilarating speeds, which the lawsuit cited as a factor in the incident.
