H.O.T.'s beverage outsold Coca-Cola during group's peak popularity
Moon Hee-joon, a member of the legendary K-pop group H.O.T., recently shared surprising details about the group's immense popularity during their peak. During an appearance on SBS's "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny," Moon Hee-joon recalled that a beverage named after the group sold an astonishing 45 million units in just five months, generating annual sales of 18 billion won. He even mentioned reports that the drink briefly outsold Coca-Cola, highlighting H.O.T.'s cultural impact.
The group, which debuted in 1996, was a pioneering first-generation idol group consisting of Moon Hee-joon, Jang Woo-hyuk, Tony An, Kangta, and Lee Jae-won. Their influence extended beyond music, shaping fashion, advertising, and teenage consumer culture with hits like "Warrior's Descendant," "Candy," "Happiness," "Light," and "I Yah!".
Moon Hee-joon's comments came during a segment where he and fellow H.O.T. member Hong Kyung-min visited a "Museum of Memories" with their families. The museum showcased nostalgic items from the 1970s to the 1990s, including a snack once advertised by H.O.T. Moon Hee-joon expressed astonishment at seeing the group's legacy preserved in a museum, reflecting on how time had passed.
Beyond his music career, Moon Hee-joon is married to former Crayon Pop member Soyul, and they have a son and a daughter.
