Halo's Future: Microsoft Considers Activision Partnership Amid Franchise Struggles
The Halo franchise is struggling to meet expectations after the release of Halo Infinite in 2021 and the disappointing sales of Halo: Campaign Evolved, which has reportedly sold just over one million copies. The TV adaptation also failed to secure a strong audience.
Microsoft is considering involving Activision Blizzard teams in future Halo games, according to Windows Central editor Jez Corden and insider RebsGaming.
The option includes Sledgehammer Games, known for its work on Call of Duty, which allegedly began prototyping a new Halo project in June but abandoned it at an early stage. However, this does not rule out a possible return to the project.
Halo Studios is heavily relying on outsourcing, with at least 15 external studios working on Halo: Campaign Evolved, including Virtuos, Digic, Keywords Studios, and others. Some of them handled significant portions of development, from visuals to campaign missions.
