HAL's HTT-40 Programme Hinges on Timely Engine Deliveries
Aircraft maker Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has delivered its first batch of HTT-40 basic trainers to the Indian Air Force, but timely engine deliveries by US firm Honeywell remain critical to keeping the ₹6,838-crore programme on schedule.
HAL chairman and managing director Ravi K said supplies are expected to stabilise from next year, with Honeywell working to resolve supply-chain bottlenecks. HAL hopes to receive six engines from Honeywell by December, which will help accelerate deliveries of the 70 trainers ordered three years ago.
The HTT-40s will bolster the air force's capacity to meet its growing pilot training requirements, serving as a stepping stone for pilots to develop critical flying skills. Currently, ab initio (Stage-I) flying training is carried out on Swiss-origin Pilatus PC-7 MkII basic trainers.
