Hardware Rotates Ahead of Software as Micron Surges 3.4-3.5% in Premarket Action
The premarket trading session has seen a notable rotation in favor of AI hardware stocks over software, with a 5.6-point gap between the two categories. According to data from TechStock², a group of four U.S. memory stocks have averaged a 3.7% gain, while a basket of four software stocks slipped 2.0%. This trend is seen as a targeted risk-taking strategy rather than a broad market rally.
Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) has led the charge with a 3.4-3.5% gain, followed closely by Sandisk (NASDAQ:SNDK) at +4.9%, and Western Digital (NASDAQ:WDC) and Seagate Technology (NASDAQ:STX) at +3.7% and +2.6%, respectively.
The increase in memory stocks is attributed to policy backing and pricing, which is boosting the AI-memory market. U.S. authorities have advised Apple against buying memory from China, leading to a surge in prices for domestic suppliers.
L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) has seen its shares drop nearly 3% following the ousting of CEO Christopher Kubasik and the appointment of Sam Mehta as his replacement. The company has stated that the conduct issue had no impact on financial reporting, controls, customers, or operating performance.
Meanwhile, Alibaba Group (NYSE:BABA) is taking a different approach, with its sale of Lingxi Games worth over $2 billion in support of its strategic move towards AI and cloud computing.
