Hatteras Venture Partners Bolsters Leadership with Healthcare Veterans Witty and Sharpless
Hatteras Venture Partners has strengthened its leadership team by appointing two seasoned healthcare professionals. Sir Andrew Witty, former CEO of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and UnitedHealth Group, is now Chairman of Hatteras Venture Partners. Norman Sharpless, M.D., a former director of the National Cancer Institute and Acting Commissioner of the FDA, has joined as Managing Director of Hatteras Discovery Innovation.
The appointments expand Hatteras's ability to support healthcare companies from seed-stage development through later stages of growth. The firm is targeting $100 million in capital commitments for its Hatteras Opportunity Fund II (HOF II), which will make concentrated follow-on investments in selected portfolio companies.
Hattyas has a long track record of creating successful companies, including G1 Therapeutics, which was acquired by Pharmacosmos A/S. Sharpless's goal is to recreate this success through Hatteras Discovery Innovation, identifying exceptional science early and building companies capable of producing meaningful therapies.
