Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines have announced changes to their interisland check-in times and added new aircraft to supplement Honolulu-to-Maui flights.

Starting October 3, all interisland travelers must check in online via the Alaska Hawaiian app and drop off checked bags at least 50 minutes before departure. This is up from the current 30-minute requirement.

The change aims to improve baggage handling and support on-time departures, with nearly all interisland passengers already checking in 50 minutes prior.

In addition, Alaska Airlines will introduce Boeing 737-800 service on three daily round trips between Honolulu and Kahului. The new flights bring additional interisland and cargo capacity and connect two of the carrier's largest Hawaii hubs while maintaining frequency.
