Hawaii's Wealthy Pitch In: Billionaires Contribute to Storm Relief Efforts

Hawaii's recent historic storm season has left many communities reeling, but it's not just ordinary people who are pitching in to help. Several of the world's wealthiest individuals own property across the islands and have been asked about their contributions to storm relief efforts.

The Meta co-founders Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan own a sprawling compound on Kauai, where Hurricane Lowell did significant damage. A spokesperson for the couple said they donated $2.3 million to the Hawaii Community Foundation's Kauai Strong Fund within a day of the storm making landfall.

On the Big Island, Salesforce founder Marc Benioff and his wife Lynne own an ocean-front villa and a large private ranch in Waimea. A spokesperson for Benioff said he made a $1 million donation to HCF's Stronger Hawaii fund after Hurricane Lala and has been paying for and donating new equipment for the Hawaii Fire Department.

Other wealthy individuals, including Oracle founder Larry Ellison and Ebay founder Pierre Omidyar, were asked about their contributions but did not respond or would not comment on whether they had donated to storm relief efforts.
