Hazardous Trailer Failure Closes Vermont Highway
A hazmat trailer carrying a highly flammable chemical experienced equipment failure on Vermont Route 9 in Woodford, forcing the highway to close.
The tractor-trailer was transporting methyl methacrylate from Memphis, Tennessee, to a Sherwin-Williams plant in Searsport, Maine, when the incident occurred.
The trailer's emergency spring brakes engaged, causing it to come to rest against a guardrail. The tractor was not damaged and was moved to a safe location in Wilmington.
Crews worked to transfer over 5,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate from the damaged tanker into a replacement trailer brought in from West Virginia.
