HCC Joins Workforce Accelerator Program Backed by Google
Houston City College (HCC) is one of 15 community colleges chosen for the Workforce Futures Accelerator, a three-year effort backed by Google.org and led by the Association of Community College Trustees. The accelerator's goal is to help colleges integrate virtual training programs with short-term workforce training.
The selected colleges will embed online project-based learning opportunities into their existing workforce education programs, allowing students to gain real-world experience working on employer-sponsored projects. HCC will select two workforce programs that meet the criteria and incorporate them into coursework, while also scaling the programs in subsequent years by adding instructors and developing a support network.
The Workforce Futures Accelerator aligns with HCC's mission of providing high-quality, affordable education for workforce training and career development. 'Participation will strengthen how we provide students with career-connected learning experiences that complement their classroom education and align with the needs of employers,' HCC Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher said.
