HCC Student Tim Scott Earns Prestigious Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship

Tim Scott, a student at Hopkinsville Community College (HCC), has been named a 2026 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. This prestigious award comes with a $1,000 scholarship to help Scott cover educational expenses while he completes his associate degree program. The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program supports new Phi Theta Kappa members who are pursuing their higher education goals.

Scott's selection as a scholar is not just based on academic merit; it also recognizes his remarkable life story and determination to succeed. Before enrolling at HCC, Scott served four years in the Navy, where he worked as an avionics troubleshooter on aircraft. After leaving the military, he experienced homelessness but persevered by working in Nashville's media industry and eventually building a successful tile remodeling business.

Scott now works in the maintenance department at HCC and is pursuing his educational goals with renewed focus. His inspiring story serves as an example to other non-traditional students who may be facing similar challenges. When asked about his experience, Scott reflected, 'If I can do it, they can do it too.'
