Hempfield Residents Oppose Proposed Gas Station Along Route 30

Hempfield residents are voicing their concerns about a proposed gas station and convenience store along Route 30. The facility, submitted by MAPCO, would be located on land previously housing Johnston the Florist across from Home Depot. A 4,500-square-foot convenience store and fueling stations are planned.

While township manager Aaron Siko said staff members evaluated the proposal based on existing zoning rules and found no reason to not recommend approval, the planning commission voted against recommending it due to buffering and setback requirements. The issue is that the two regional commercial parcels next to each other eliminate typical buffering requirements associated with a commercial property next to residential use.

Residents Rick Delligatti and Christopher Stoltz are worried about traffic safety hazards on Route 30, including tanker trucks delivering gas. They plan to attend Monday's supervisors meeting to voice their opinions.
