Hidden Details and Functional Designs: The Art of Disney Cast Member Costumes
At Walt Disney World, the costumes worn by cast members are more than just uniforms. They have to tell a story while also being functional for the cast member who wears it.
The costume designers at Disney's Costuming team take pride in creating garments that not only fit the theme of the attraction or restaurant but also provide comfort and practicality for the people wearing them.
One such example is the bright green parking costume worn by cast members. At first glance, it appears to be just a highly visible uniform, but upon closer inspection, you'll find a pattern filled with vehicles from Disney history, including Herbie the Love Bug, TRON Light Cycle, and Cruella de Vil's car.
Another example is the Jungle Cruise skipper costume. The designers made changes to improve how it functions for the skippers who wear it, including redesigning the ventilation on the back of the shirt to prevent it from catching on the steering wheel.
